Focus on Fitness
I received my Bachelor’s degree from University of Maryland in Dietetics in May
of 2000 while earning my personal training certification from AFAA in 1997. In
addition to personal training, I am also certified by AFAA in youth fitness and
senior fitness and hold a NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist
certification.
The dietetics degree gives me the background in anatomy and physiology for
personal training as well as the scientific nutrition background. This allows me
to provide more well-rounded programs to my clients.
I started my own in-home personal training business in November of 1999 while
still in college. My business, Focused Fitness, has grown to include seminars,
school programs, corporate wellness and small group personal training. In
addition, I helped develop a weight loss program for the Department of Federal
Occupational Health in Washington, DC.
The majority of our clients are middle-aged women looking to lose body fat and
improve their overall health. We also work with youth to teach them that
physical activity is important and can even be fun in addition to sports
specific conditioning. I find that encouraging my clients to believe in
themselves and realize that anything is possible with hard work and dedication
is one of the biggest keys to success.
